Leh, Feb 17 (KNO): Amid the freezing night temperature in cold desert Ladakh, the students of Eliezer Jordan Memorial College in Leh continue sit-in day-night protest for the third consecutive day against the authorities for failing to declare results and providing them degree certificates. The students of EJM College Leh started their protest on February 15 against the University authorities for failing to declare results in a time-bound manner and the Ladakh administration for not helping the student community during the hour of need. The protesting students while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the university authorities have failed to declare the results on time and facilitate the students with degree certificates, thus forcing them to face hardships while the examinations were conducted as scheduled in the semester criteria affecting the further studies of students. Anis- Ul- Rehman, General Secretary EJM College council part of the sit-in day-night protest told KNO that the main reason for the strike is undeclared results and delay in providing a degree certificates. "We have met the representatives of Hill Council, administration, including the Lieutenant Governor and chairman. They all verbally assured help but to no avail," he said. "I have appeared in the 2nd-semester examination on June 2019 but so far the result is awaited while the exams are conducted from time to time," he said. Anis said that some students are highly worried about their future since their degree certificates are awaited while some backlog results are undeclared. He said that the 3rd-semester result has been declared earlier today which is a good sign but there protest won't end, unless all their demands raised, are met. Ibtesum Iqbal, a female representative of the EJM college council told KNO that ever since the bifurcation with a separate university established in Ladakh the students are facing immense difficulties. "NA and LO signs are shown in the result of some students," she said. She demands that the result of all semesters must be declared. "Kashmir University must issue a formal notification about results and examination in time bound period so that further studies don't suffer," she said. The protesting students maintained that the night stay is extremely challenging since the temperature goes very down and touches minus 13 or 15 regularly. Sources informed that Secretary Higher Education Padma Angmo early this morning visited the protesting students outside the EJM college and assured them the results will be announced in the next 10 days and students will be facilitated—(KNO)
